Meet the SCC Faculty

Tom McGuire is SCC’s Assistant Professor of Health Science, known for his ability to connect with students, colleagues, and the community. With a passion for helping people reach their greatest potential, Tom dedicates himself to providing the necessary time and attention to ensure his students succeed. 

Professionally, Tom has extensive experience in athletic training, emergency medical services, exercise physiology, and education, making him a well-rounded and highly skilled educator. Credentialed through the American College of Sports Medicine and having completed graduate work in Athletic Training at Neumann University, he continuously strives for excellence in his field. Tom also holds certifications as an Exercise Physiologist (EP-C), Certified Professional Coach, and Basic Life Support Instructor, in addition to being a licensed EMT in the State of New Jersey. Tom’s commitment to health education is evident as he pursues his Ph.D. in Health Science at Liberty University. In recent years, Tom’s research interests have included the therapeutic effects of postural biofeedback, as well as active learning through vehicles such as project-based learning. In May 2013, Tom achieved a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Rider University, which led him to serve as a school principal in Cape May County, New Jersey, for a seven-year tenure. 

Additionally, he has enriched the minds of students at various New Jersey community colleges where he taught anatomy and physiology and health science-related courses. In 2017, Tom was honored with the Sea Isle City Knights of Columbus Educator of the Year Award. During the 2021-2022 school year, he delivered two interdepartmental presentations for Atlantic Cape Community College: one on the "Physiology of Anxiety" and the other focusing on "Using the Gallery Walk Approach to Increase Student Engagement." 

As a teaching administrator for Event Medical Services LLC, Tom further exemplified his commitment to helping and inspiring others. Tom is excited to bring his passion for research, teaching, and leadership to Salem Community College. He is enthusiastic about guiding SCC Health Science students and all those aspiring for health science-related careers throughout their college and professional journeys. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Tom actively participates in professional organizations, notably as an active member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS). When not fulfilling his responsibilities at Salem Community College, Tom manages the medical facility of the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol. There his duties include coordinating the EMS response to medical and water emergencies. Residing in southern New Jersey, Tom cherishes spending time with his family and friends, as well as his mini-goldendoodle, London.
