Salem Community College’s 2024 International Flameworking Conference begins on Friday, March 15 with a presentation on contemporary flameworking by curator Susie Silbert and a screening of award-winning documentary filmmaker Dan Collins’ latest release, Paul Stankard: Flower & Flame.

The free program starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Sol and Jean Davidow Performing Arts Theatre in Davidow Hall, 460 Hollywood Ave., Carneys Point. No registration is required.

For the last seven years, Silbert was the curator of postwar and contemporary glass at The Corning Museum of Glass, where she oversaw a transformation of the Museum’s flagship contemporary publication, New Glass Review.

Collins’ stunning documentary paints an intimate portrait of Stankard, exploring his work, his wit and his wisdom.  An internationally acclaimed artist and pioneer in the studio glass movement, Stankard is considered a living master who translates nature in glass. A distinguished alumnus of Salem Community College (SCC), Stankard has earned numerous awards and honorary doctorate degrees including The James Renwick Alliance Masters of the Medium Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Glass Art Society. He is an artist-in-residence and honorary professor at SCC.

The International Flameworking Conference  is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a division of the Department of State, through the Salem County Board of Commissioners and the Salem County Cultural & Heritage Commission.
