2017 Distinguished Alumna - Ida Bowen

Class of 1976

Ida Bowen has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Deepwater Industries Federal Credit Union since February 2015.  She provides dynamic leadership, direction and guidance to all Credit Union activities.  For example, Ida initiated a $900,000 renovation of the Credit Union’s facility in 2016 and the opening of the first two branches in the operation’s 82-year history in 2017.  She directs a comprehensive marketing program that has led to an increased number of new services and products for the Credit Union’s 9,000 members.  In 2017, she was named to the board of the New Jersey Credit Union League Service Corporation.   

In 2017, Deepwater was named the Credit Union of the Year by the New Jersey Credit Union League. In addition, Deepwater was the winner in the best financial institution category in the “Best of Salem County” celebration. 

Ida worked at Mannington Mills for 28 years in a series of positions of increasing responsibility.  As Manager of Corporate Human Resources Analysis and Training from 2007 until 2015, she oversaw the company’s training and development process by conducting appropriate training programs including the preparation of learning aids and technical skills.  

In the community, Ida served on Salem Community College’s business department advisory board (2013-2015).  She chaired the United Way of Salem County’s activities committee (2005-2015), volunteered for Junior Achievement (1999-2015) and taught human resource studies at Wilmington University (2009-2010).  While at Mannington Mills, Ida served on the Deepwater Industries Federal Credit Union’s board of directors (2012-2015).   Her professional affiliations include the Philadelphia Chapter of the Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals (former president) and the American Society of Training and Development.  

Ida earned an Associate in Applied Science Degree from Salem Community College, and a Bachelor of Science Degree and an MBA from Wilmington University.  She was honored as Salem Community College’s 2017 Distinguished Alumna.

Ida resides in Pennsville with her husband Joe.  They have two children.  Their daughter Joanna and son-in-law Matt live in Severna Park, Maryland, along with grandsons, Joe and Nico.  Their son Nicholas and daughter-in-law Lauren live in Pennsville along with granddaughters, Addison and McKenna.
