SCC student Karina Escobar enjoyed a unique experience on April 3. During a public budget hearing at Rowan University, she addressed the New Jersey Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee.
Karina -- the only community college student to speak during the day-long event -- poignantly shared how Salem Community College (and, previously, Brookdale Community College) have helped change her life.
“My parents came from the third-world country of El Salvador,” she told the committee members. “They reminded my siblings and me how valuable education was and that going to college was a dream they had as children but couldn’t achieve.”
Karina will graduate next month from SCC with degrees in scientific glass technology and glass art.
