SCC posts strongest spring enrollment in nine years

Salem Community College achieved its fall 2022 and spring 2023 enrollment goals, SCC officials announced at the March meeting of the Board of Trustees.

With 1,133 students, SCC has its largest spring enrollment in nine years.  A 16 percent increase in credits over spring 2022 enabled the College to surpass its credit count goal of 10,670.

“Additionally, we are on track to achieve our enrollment goals for summer and fall of 2023,” said Dean of Enrollment Management and Student Services Kelly A. Schimpf.

Growth in Nursing (associate degree), Practical Nursing (certificate), Scientific Glass Technology and Glass Art along with the continued expansion of Mighty Oaks Athletics are fueling the increase. Another contributing factor is the 20 percent increase in high school dual enrollment and dual credit students from spring 2022.

“The positive energy across the campus makes your Salem Community College a great place to be,” said President Dr. Michael R. Gorman. “In fact, that energy has helped us emerge from the post-COVID period as a stronger institution. It foreshadows that even better days are ahead.”

“Our dedicated, hardworking professionals are truly passionate about our mission,” said Schimpf, who was appointed dean last July 1. “There are always challenges, but we tackle them head-on as a team with a student-first mindset. At SCC, we take pride in community literally being our middle name, and we’ll be serving our community for many, many years to come!”
