“A Night at the Kentucky Derby” raises over $45,000
An enthusiastic crowd of 216 recently celebrated the long-awaited arrival of spring at the Salem Community College Foundation Gala, “A Night at the Kentucky Derby.”
The 13th annual event, co-sponsored by the Partners of Salem County, raised $45,298 for the SCC Foundation scholarship fund, according to Linda P. Smith, executive director of the SCC Foundation. Since its inception in 2002, the Gala has raised $615,577 and helped change the lives of more than 850 SCC students through scholarships.
“It was a fabulous night,” said SCC President Joan M. Baillie. “Not only did we raise much-needed scholarship funds but everyone enjoyed the theme. The entire evening was vibrant and exciting.” The event culminated with the best-hat contest, won by Rhonda Gage of Pennsville. Other winners included Bob and Debbie Callahan of Salem for best-dressed couple and Brian Marshall for best-dressed man.
“I extend my special thanks to the Partners of Salem County for presenting the Gala with the SCC Foundation,” said Baillie. “I also recognize the hard work of co-chairs Ceil Smith and Rita Van Eck, along with Linda Smith and other members of the Gala team, including the Silent Auction committee members.” Held in Davidow Hall on the SCC campus, the Gala featured the perennially popular silent auction and a buffet catered by DiPaolo’s Italian Ristorante. The cocktail reception and silent auction preview were sponsored by Atlantic City Electric. PSEG Nuclear sponsored musical entertainment by The Funsters. The Gala was also supported by many other generous sponsors.
