1999 Distinguished Alumni - Thomas S. Shaw

Thomas S. Shaw is a 1967 Salem graduate, earning a diploma in drafting and design. Later, he earned an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering from Delaware Technical and Community College, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical drafting and design technology from Wilmington College. A Vietnam War veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from 1967 until 1970.

Mr. Shaw is president and chief operating officer for Conectiv. He joined Delmarva Power in 1971 as an engineering assistant at the Edgemoor Power Plant. He has remained with the company while advancing through several management positions. He was president of Delmarva Capital Investments, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Delmarva Power from 1991 until 1996. He assumed his current responsibilities when Delmarva merged with Atlantic Energy to form Conectiv in 1998.    

Mr. Shaw serves as treasurer for the Board of Trustees of Wilmington College and is a board member of the Community Services Building Corporation in Wilmington. He is a former board member of the United Way of Delaware and currently serves on the finance committee. He also serves as Conectiv’s representative on the Stockton Alliance, a partnership of industry and environmental organizations in New Jersey.

He and his wife, Sandra, live in Greenville, Delaware. They have two grown children—Scott and Cara.
