Walk for a great cause on Oct. 5
The Salem Community College Alumni Association sponsors its ninth annual Walk and Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 5 starting on the Dr. David J. Klinke Green in front of Tillis Hall.
With the $15 registration fee, participants receive a t-shirt. Proceeds from the Walk and Fun Run benefit the Alumni Association book grant fund for SCC students. Since its inception in 2005, the event has raised over $9,300.
Registration by Friday, Sept. 27 is encouraged but participants may continue to register until the event. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. with the walk starting at 8:30 a.m. The two-mile course consists of portions of campus and the neighborhood streets near SCC.
“We invite community members to join us for this important cause,” said Alumni Association President Candice Racite. “Due to the rising cost of textbooks, these grants are needed more than ever. Thanks to the generosity of previous Walk and Fun Run participants and other supporters, the Alumni Association now annually supports 12 students with book grants.”
The Walk and Fun Run is followed by the annual Health Fair sponsored by SCC’s Associate Degree in Nursing students from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in the Student Union, Donaghay Hall. Several free screenings will be available.
