SCC to offer classes in professional development
Salem Community College will offer a series of classes to assist individuals develop the basic skills to find a job, start a business or change careers.
The classes -- which cost $35 each or $125 for all four -- run Thursdays, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Room TIL 108, Tillis Hall, Salem Community College, 460 Hollywood Avenue.
“Owning and Operating Your Own Business” (Sept. 2) explores the responsibilities of the entrepreneur and the resources available in making sound business decisions. Topics include investigating competition, pricing, advertising and marketing.
“The Perfect Résumé” (Sept. 9) covers methods to emphasize marketable skills and use power words to describe work experiences and skills. Participants review sample résumés and cover letters, and enhance existing résumés.
“Interviewing Skills” (Sept. 16) prepares participants for a job interview. Topics include common questions asked and tips on how to best answer them.
“Exploring New Career Opportunities” (Sept. 23) helps experienced workers explore new career options and market their abilities in today’s work environment. Participants learn more about today’s challenging job market while examining the option of starting a business.
