SCC names Gioia to lead softball team

Vince Gioia has joined Salem Community College as the head softball coach. The Carneys Point native returns after coaching SCC’s softball team from 1995-1999.

Gioia has managed and coached the Penns Grove-Carneys Point Servicemen’s men’s softball league since 1976. In addition, he has umpired for the Independent Umpires Association and has worked as a football official for the past 12 years with the South Jersey Officials Association.

Gioia also serves as the vice chairman for the Carneys Point Township sports and recreation committee and chairs the township’s sports and recreation subcommittee.

He recently retired from DuPont where he worked for 39 years.
