Paul J. Stankard, Salem Community College distinguished alumnus and world-renowned glass artist with works in major museums throughout the world, will be featured on “CBS News Sunday Morning”.

Martha Teichner, a CBS Sunday Morning correspondent along with a complete production crew, spent an entire day in Stankard’s studio in Mantua, filming him at work and talking to him about his artistic journey in glass. The segment follows his career from a scientific glass blower to a highly acclaimed artist.

Filming and interviews for the CBS feature were also done at The Art Institute of Chicago where Stankard’s Honeybee Swarm with Flowers and Fruit, 2012, paperweight orb is prominently displayed in the newly expanded gallery for the Arthur Rubloff collection of paperweights. It is the only piece of contemporary glass on display in the museum.

SCC’s artist in residence, Stankard graduated in 1963.  He chairs the Salem Community College International Flameworking Conference, held annually since 2001. Stankard and his wife, Patricia, established the Contemporary Glass Resource Center in SCC’s Michael S. Cettei Memorial Library last year.
