The sound of Christmas carols and a variety of other holiday musical selections will fill the Sol and Jean Davidow Performing Arts Theatre at Salem Community College when the SCC Oak Singers present their 28th Annual Holiday Concert on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. in Davidow Hall, 460 Hollywood Ave., Carneys Point.
A string quintet will accompany the choir on seasonal offerings including “Glow” by Eric Whitacre, “Shepherd’s Carol,” “O Come, All Ye Faithful” and “The First Noel,” all arranged or composed by Dan Forrest. Selections with the string ensemble will be Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas,” and concluding with “God Bless Us Everyone” from Disney’s A Christmas Carol.
The 39-member Oak Singers choir is directed by Charles H. Musser, also an SCC adjunct instructor. The Oak Singers’ founder, Mr. Musser will retire following the spring concert. The Oak Singers are accompanied by Laurie Goforth. In addition to the string ensemble, “O Come, All Ye Faithful” will include two pianos. Joining Laurie at a second piano is Nancy Bubeck, an accomplished pianist from Pennsville. Laurie and Nancy will also perform a piano duet with “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.”
The program will feature a women’s selection, a men’s selection and an octet’s performance. Also featured will be David Gallagher and Michael Roberts on guitar, accompanying “Feliz Navidad.”

In conjunction with the Oak Singers’ concert, Salem County Art Express – a new exhibit/sale featuring seven local artists -- will open for business at 2 p.m. (one hour before the concert) in the Davidow Hall Gallery. Art Express will run until 5 p.m. Art Express will begin on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.
The SCC Oak Singers’ holiday concert is made possible from a grant by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts through Salem County Board of Freeholders and Salem County Cultural and Heritage Commission.
