2008 International Flameworking Conference
Friday, March 28 - Sunday, March 30
Preconference Seminar: “Connecting the Dots – The Collective Perspective”
Friday, March 28, 12 noon (includes lunch)
This year’s preconference seminar will feature something a little different from past years. The goal is a greater understanding of the various aspects of our community of glass artists and collectors with increased audience participation. To that end, the seminar will be divided into five rooms, each headed by a prominent member of the glass community who specializes in a particular aspect of glass art creation and marketing. Participants will be able to move from room to room to speak openly with these “specialists” about any matter that interests them. Participants will be actively engaged in the conversation and presentation, molding the content to their own needs and interests, and availing themselves of the expertise and advanced knowledge of these six highly qualified experts:
- Beth Hylen, Librarian, Corning Museum of Glass.
Topic: The Resources at the Rakow Research Library
- Dr. Jutta-Annette Page, Curator of Glass, Toledo Museum of Art.
Topic: The Curator’s Role in the Process of Glass Art Preservation and Promotion
- Chris Pavlou, Owner, Turning Point Gallery.
Topic: The Gallery Owner’s Role in the Process of Marketing Glass Art - Gateson Recko, Independent Glass Artist.
Topic: Navigating the Forest and Creating a Personal Path
- Arlene and Norman Silvers, Glass Collectors.
Topic: The Role of Collectors in the Process of Art-Making and Marketing
Attendees may attend as many as three breakout sessions, each 45 minutes long.
