World-renowned glass artist Paul J. Stankard and wife Patricia are tremendous supporters of Salem Community College. When the College opened the Samuel H. Jones Glass Education Center in 2009, the Stankards donated a selection of artwork by significant master artists from around the world. A 1963 SCC graduate, Distinguished Alumnus and SCC Artist-in-Residence, Paul enjoys sharing his knowledge with students and he believes that they benefit from seeing great work in person.
Pat shares Paul’s enthusiasm for SCC and they consider the display a wonderful way to give back to the College. The collection, which is sympathetic to flameworking, includes scientific and artistic works. Paul carefully chose the pieces to ensure they reflect SCC’s curriculum. Among the renowned artists whose work is represented are Lucio Bubacco, Matt Eskuche, Carmen Lozar, Robert Mickelsen and Kari Russell-Pool. The collection also includes items from American and Japanese master glass bead-makers.
The Paul and Patricia Stankard Contemporary Glass Collection is on display in the Samuel H. Jones Glass Education Center lobby, 286 Welchville Rd., Alloway, N.J. The general public may visit the collection weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. To schedule a visit, call 856.935.3606.
