Dr. Natalie A. van Breukelen is an Assistant Professor of Biology. In addition to teaching Introductory Biology, she also regularly teaches non-majors environmental and biological science courses. Her scholarly interests involved exploring animal reproductive behaviors focusing on monogamous teleost species. Dr. van Breukelen has an established and active field research program in Costa Rica, where she plans to continue conducting research with students. Dr. van Breukelen is a member of the Animal Behavior Society and has presented her research at international, national, and regional conferences. She has published the results of her field and laboratory research in numerous peer reviewed scientific journals, and she has served as an expert reviewer. Currently, Dr. van Breukelen is working on developing new online lab courses, improving and expanding the biology program at SCC, and incorporating project based learning into the environmental science courses, including a focus on campus environmental sustainability. In addition to her work at SCC, Dr. van Breukelen enjoys spending time with her family and travelling.
