Examines on an interpretive basis and from the perspective of a conceptual approach, the history and culture of the United States from the colonial period to the Civil War. The course explores the interrelationships that make the past, present and future a dynamic continuity. The course is geared to help students understand the period’s events, ideals, traditions, institutions and forces which have shaped the country so that students may more clearly understand the present and gain perspective that is valuable in formulating possible solutions to the country’s problems.
