Description: 
Provides the student with an opportunity to integrate classroom theory and knowledge with practices of the medical coding system. The course promotes professional development and exposes students to the real world of work in a professional environment. Specifically, a student is taught what a career in medical coding and billing entails, and how to begin a career in medical coding. Student internship placement may include private physician’s offices, group practices, hospitals, medical billing companies and insurance companies. Students meet for a one-hour seminar each week and must complete at least 90 work hours at an assigned internship placement.
Prerequisite: 
HSC 101 and approval from Dean of Academic Affairs. A background check may also be required for placement at some agencies.
