Description: 
Explores the basic principles of exercise science. Students apply knowledge gained in studies of anatomy, physiology, chemistry and physics to an understanding of exercise theory. Students examine cardiovascular and metabolic adaptations to aerobic exercise, the role of nutrition in fitness, and the acute exercise variables of aerobic exercise programming. The lab portion of the course trains proper aerobic exercise techniques, flexibility and safety procedures, and sample exercise regimens for general endurance, distance athletes and clients with metabolic or cardiovascular conditions. HPE 221 may be taken before HPE 220.
Prerequisite: 
Placement into ENG 101, MAT 095, CHM 100.
