Investigates the basic principles of exercise science. Students apply knowledge gained in studies of anatomy, physiology, chemistry and physics to an understanding of exercise theory. Students understand human adaptations to strength training, muscular, skeletal and neural components of force production, and the acute variables of resistance training program design. The lab portion of the course trains proper techniques for training strength and speed, spotting and safety procedures, and sample exercise regimens for general strength gain, athletes, and clients with orthopedic and/or spinal considerations.
