Introduces students to forensics both in the theoretical and in laboratory methods. Forensics focuses on learning the techniques for the scientific examination of physical evidence such as fibers, glass, hair, soil, bullets, fingerprints and shoeprints. Students review theoretical methods of comparison and their influence on scientific interpretation. The course focuses on the chemical, biological and physical methods used in forensic examination. Topics include microscopy, serology, imprints, impressions, tool marks, gunshot residue, cordage and textile examinations, blood spatter, hair examination and crime scene reconstruction.
Prerequisite:
Completion of ENG 098 and MAT 093, if required; and either high school biology, high school chemistry or CHM 100. Term(s) Offered:
