Strengthens students' fundamental skills in reading and writing. Standard English usage and correct mechanics are emphasized along with practice in identifying main ideas, supporting details and organizational patterns. Students read extensively and write thoughtfully, responding to topics of general or popular interest. Successful completion of this course allows students to proceed to ENG 098. (Course does not apply toward graduation.)
