SCC Baseball Team takes Garden State Athletic Conference

CARNEYS POINT TWP, NJ – Salem Community College’s baseball team won its first Garden State Athletic Conference championship with a 3-2 victory over Mercer County College.
Dan Callen, a graduate of Woodstown High School, pitched a 9-inning complete game, allowing two earned runs, striking out seven and walking two while scattering nine hits.
Caigan O’Callahan, a Southern Regional High School graduate of Barnegat, N.J., went 3 for 3 with two singles and one double with one RBI. Jabari Graham, a Northwestern High School graduate of Takoma Park, Md., went 3 for 4 with two singles and one double. Sean Gorham, a West Deptford High School graduate, went 1 for 3 with one RBI, which was the game-winner.
“The win shows that our program is continuing to move in the right direction and toward our goal of winning a regional championship,” said head coach Ron Palmer.
The team is now 24-21 after the doubleheader sweep of Sussex County Community College in the opening round of the Region XIX tournament on April 28. The Oaks have reached the Region XIX "Final Four" and will play Delaware Tech-Owens Campus at 1 p.m. Friday, May 4. For the first time in school history, the Oaks host the tournament, at the Carneys Point Recreational Complex, May 4-6. For more information, call 351-2717.
