2008 Distinguished Alumni - Sue Ann Leighty
Class of 1991
Sue Ann Leighty has distinguished herself in the fields of business, finance, volunteerism and civic involvement.
Sue Ann completed her associate degree in liberal arts at Salem Community College in 1991 and earned a bachelor of business administration degree at Wesley College in Dover, Del. Sue Ann attended Salem Community College while she was working full time and raising her sons, Bruce Jr., who is currently enrolled at SCC and Matthew, a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Her pride and joy, granddaughter Brynn Ann Leighty, is two years old. Sue Ann’s husband, Bruce, is a Salem Community College alumnus.
The Carneys Point Township resident worked for Citigroup in Wilmington for 20 years. She advanced to senior vice president, overseeing global loan operations for four years. Sue Ann spent time on assignments in Amsterdam, India and New York, and traveled extensively throughout the United States. She held leadership posts in the Citigroup Women's Council which focused on the career development of women to help them move up in the corporation. While at Citigroup, she earned the President’s Award for Volunteerism.
Sue Ann is a sales agent and owner of a very successful real estate agency, ERA Preferred Realtors®, in Pennsville. Sue Ann’s enthusiasm for all she does is evident in her firm’s honor in 2007 as the best realtor in Salem County in a public vote sponsored by the Salem County Chamber of Commerce, Today’s Sunbeam, the Salem County Office of Economic Development and the Salem County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
In the community, Sue Ann was a top fund raiser for the March of Dimes, The Alzheimer's Memory Walk and the Habitat for Humanity. While at Citigroup, she served in the student mentoring program with Howard High School's Academy of Finance. Since 1998, Sue Ann's main volunteer passion has been the weekly delivery of Meals on Wheels to the elderly and shut-ins in Salem County and New Castle County (Del).
Active with the Salem County Chamber of Commerce’s Ambassador Club, Sue Ann recruits new Chamber members. She received the Chamber’s “Ring My Bell” award, presented at the Annual Shad Dinner, for her outstanding efforts as an Ambassador Club member. Sue Ann is a board member of the YMCA of Salem County and also a member of the Rotary Club of Penns Grove, serving as its secretary.
