Scholarship Information

Tuition scholarships are available to individuals who plan to enroll at SCC, as well as currently enrolled students. Scholarships are awarded for academic excellence, financial need, athletics and other designated reasons. Applications are available online in the SCC Scholarship Booklet or in Student Affairs. Priority will be given to students who apply by June 1.  Scholarships will continue to be awarded as funds are available.

This section acquaints students and others with the anticipated scholarships available to those attending or planning to attend Salem Community College. The scholarships are listed by specialty and name, and, in most cases, include the following:

  • The amount
  • The primary criteria for selection
  • The application process

Scholarship recipients will be notified beginning in July.

Winning a scholarship is an honor and identifies the recipient as an SCC Scholar. In accepting the award, the student agrees to participate in SCC Scholar meetings once a semester, meet with a scholarship advisor periodically during the semester, and represent the College at community functions once or twice a year.

Students applying for SCC scholarships must complete an application for financial aid and receive notification of the financial award amount before a scholarship can be awarded. This process will ensure that a greater number of students will receive a financial aid award, a scholarship award, or both.

Hope Scholarship Tax Credit

The Hope Scholarship, established by the federal government's Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997, provides a tax credit of up to $1,500 per year for students from middle-income families for the first two years of college. The tax credit will be available in an amount of 100 percent for the first $1,000 of qualified tuition and related expenses paid, plus 50 percent of the next $1,000. The amount of tuition and fees covered by the Hope Scholarship Tax Credit is reduced by other grant and scholarship aid received.
