Tuition and Fees

College tuition and fees cover approximately 40 percent of the entire cost of a student's education at Salem Community College. The remaining costs are covered by state and county funding. Salem Community College strives to keep its tuition and fee rates as affordable as possible. A description of tuition and fees is listed below.
Tuition
Covers the cost of instruction and maintaining the infrastructure necessary to support a collegiate environment.
Per-credit College fee
Covers the costs associated with maintaining and improving classroom facilities and providing support for student activities.
Per-credit technology fee
Covers the cost of supporting computer labs used by students in classrooms, open computer labs and the Michael S. Cettei Memorial Library. This fee also covers the cost of new technology for students such as the wide-screen monitors that are being installed across campus to keep students informed of College events and programs.
Course fees
Cover the cost of specific course-related software and software licensing. The fees are also associated with non-lab based courses that have special needs such as (but not limited to) photography, glass, art and golf courses.
Lab fees
Cover the cost associated with providing laboratory experiences including materials, special equipment, and general maintenance of the laboratory environment.
Nursing fees
The practical nursing and associate degree in nursing programs have additional fees that are charged for nursing courses according to program guidelines. These fees, which include the purchase of special equipment, disposable supplies and related materials, are:
- Nursing clinical course fees cover the cost of medical supplies, equipment and technology for specialized nursing instruction.
- Nursing course fees cover the cost of NCLEX simulation testing and remediation to prepare students for the licensed practical nursing examination.
- Nursing program fees cover the cost of program requirements such as background checks, drug testing, burn seminars, nursing membership dues and other items that are required by the program but not covered by other fees or tuition.
