Greetings from your SCC President,
Thank you for the privilege of serving as the 8th president of Salem Community College. This is a rare and treasured opportunity. I promise to embrace it with enthusiasm, meet every challenge with excitement, and examine every issue with the best interest of our students and the county at heart. Building upon the work of my predecessors, we will strive to make SCC a model for others to follow.
Community colleges have played an important role in the lives of the Gorman family. In 1973 I received an associate degree from Burlington County College (BCC). My wife and our daughter are graduates of Salem Community College. After raising three children, my mother attained her associate degree at BCC. Through the early stages of the dual credit college acceleration program, our son took community college credits to Penn. We believe in the community college system, particularly Salem Community College. In 2002 I even took a digital photography class here at SCC.
A quick snapshot of my background – I received my bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from Widener University, along with a master’s from Temple University. My career spans 40 years in public education, from the classroom to the office of the superintendent. During that time, I have had the privilege of working locally in Woodstown, Pennsville, Salem County Vo-Tech, and now, the College. Other stops have included teaching Chester (Pa.) and Pitman, and serving as the superintendent in both Glassboro and Pemberton.
As I take the helm of Salem Community College, I recognize I have a steep learning curve. You have my assurance that I will strive to exceed expectations as your president in providing affordable and quality education to empower everyone to achieve their full potential.
Thank you again for this opportunity. Together we will make Salem Community College a model for others to follow.
Michael R. Gorman, Ed.D.
